Perceptions of The Pacific

These six small works are all produced to a standard size and format on the cheapest commercially produced Das canvas.

The original figures are reproduced from a 1960s womens top purchased from a retro shop in 2010. The works avoid naming a specific Pacific Island location to reinforce the generic perception of the Pacific as it has been presented in art, literature and advertising by non Pacific peoples for the greater part of the 20th century.

In this the works revisit some of the issues that were raised in the exhibition Mar Pacifico ! at Rotorua Museum in 2009.
